Where’s the romance? The new generation of R&B

Fifteen years ago, Ne-Yo was the love hit machine of the era. All lovers (or heartbroken) of that era would hum his songs non-stop. This week he was interviewed and revealed that he is very disappointed with the change his genre has undergone: “‘I love you have become ‘my bitch.’”

Like anything in the world, especially in music, the R&B genre has completely changed in recent years. Sometimes the messages have become more profound and more direct, but according to Ne-Yo, who was once one of the stars of the musical style, it comes at the expense of romance, and it is no longer possible to find true love songs in the genre.

“R&B music has entered an era where it’s much tougher than we remember,” the star said, “‘I love you has become ‘My bitch.’ “Not a trend or something that could fade. It’s not something that should go out of fashion. It’s like saying heaven is no longer in fashion. No, you need it to live.”
